Epoxy Garage Floors

Did you know that just about every garage floor is different?  Some concrete slabs are super hard, others are super soft. Creating a beautiful epoxy floor always starts with accurate slab analysis and preparation.

The correct way to prepare your concrete slab

The quality of the surface preparation will determine the quality of the final floor.

We start by diamond grinding the existing slab. The hardness of your concrete will determine which diamond type we need to use to prepare the slab. We’ve found that older slabs are generally the better ones to work with, as newer slabs are often porous.

If your slab is porous, we will also prime it to reduce moisture penetration.

It’s not the sexiest part of the process, but crucial to get right before moving on to the fun part.

Which finish would you like?

Once the floor is perfectly prepared with a smooth surface, it’s time for the fun part – laying your beautiful new floor finish.

There is a huge range of garage floor finishes available including one colour, blended colours, flake finishes, decorative metallic, and even a finish with some of your favourite memorabilia embedded.

Epoxy finish options

Flake Flooring

We use a polymer decorative vinyl flake chip over a standard base coat epoxy colour.  The density of flake can be 100% full coverage, or varied to suit your specific design requirements. Choose from a wide range of colour combinations.

Metallic Flooring

A metallic finish gives a floor with depth of colour which looks almost 3 dimensional.  The smooth, glass like finish has a unique and subtle reflective sparkle. We can any creative technique you can think of to ensure you have a unique design.

Slip Resistant Gloss Finish

Want a high gloss finish that’s not slippery?  No problem.  After the initial process of broadcasting the flake and allowing it to dry; we scrape and vacuum, then use a commercial sander to completely flatten the flake to seal in with the top coats. It’s smooth, but not slippery.

Custom Finish

Why not create your own custom floor – unique to you and your family?  We have sealed in vinyl records and other types of treasures to create something truly unique and memorable.   We do need to test first to ensure our product is compatible with the item.

How long will it take?

A standard 36sqm double garage we normally complete in two days.  It does depend on weather and temperature of course.

Does it smell?

Does it smell?

Typically on a new floor we use products without solvents which are classed as low to no Volatile Organic Compound (VOC). This means that there are no nasty smells like you get with solvent based products.

Icons_Cracks

Will it crack or chip?

The products we use are destruct tested. As with any flooring, epoxy is not indestructible and we recommend care. A blunt heavy object won’t penetrate the floor but may damage it by way of cracking into the floor.

Icons_Use

How long before you can use it?

You will need to keep all items off the floor for two days.  Cars need to remain out of the garage for a week because curing happens under the surface and an uncured coating could upset the tyres on your car, potentially creating a safety issue.

Icons_Clean

How do you clean it?

In general, do not use chemicals to clean as warm soapy water is usually adequate. Certainly do not use any form of bleach as it will compromise the integrity and cause discolouration.

A stiff bristle brush with some light detergent and a rinse can be enough if done on a regular basis. If the floor has heavy duty slip resistance, it will be harder to clean.
